Palacio del Infante Don Luis de Borbón

Cocina

We are on the first floor of the building, behind the monumental staircase and facing the north wall, on either side of the dining room are the kitchen and the bakery with doors to the corner. All of them were located next to the wine cellar, which shows that the architect, Ventura Rodríguez, combined aesthetics with practicality. In the same area, the rooms reserved for the service are concentrated. It is no coincidence that they face north; the freshness of the exterior and the thick walls were designed to preserve food. In this place, Manuel Arias, the cook of the Infante, showed his skills accompanied by the best products of the region, many of which came from the crops that D. Luis owned in Arenas and Ramacastañas. These rooms were equipped with all the necessary tools for the different processes that were carried out, from chocolate makers, molds or copper pots, or the refrigerator for the ice cream of the summer snacks. Were equipped with different worktables to cut the meat. Today, as we enter, we can boast on the left of its large bell, fully preserved with its original oven. The granite stone floors have a channeled drain that favored the cleaning of the room and at the back right the sinks. It is a room that was later used for various purposes, including storage and stabling, as evidenced by the rings that were anchored to the sinks when they were converted into mangers. Probably not missing in either period would be the cat, a very valuable collaborator in keeping rodents and other small animals away from the food stored there.
