Premios Gredos de Pintura en Arenas de San Pedro

Palacio del Infante Don Luis de Borbón

Premios Gredos de Pintura

Since March 2018, the Palace of the Infante Don Luis de Borbón has housed the permanent exhibition of the Gredos Painting Awards. When the City Council of Arenas placed in this room more than 80 works definitively, becoming one of the richest art galleries of Castilla y León; thus recalling other times when these walls housed works by Goya, Paret, Van Loo, or Mengs. This contest was born in the 70's as a journalism award given the link that the Villa has with Josefina Carabias. It became a literary contest and finally in 1980 was born as we know it today, a painting award. This is a competition whose prize has not been awarded on only two occasions, in 1981 and 1987, by decision of the respective juries. The award ceremony takes place in October, coinciding with the eve of the San Pedro de Alcántara Festival, and since 2015 the gala has been held in the main hall of this palace. In the decades that it has been celebrated, we have achieved a collection of artists of the first national level, with the award going twice to the famous artist Victorio Rodríguez. Currently, the prize consists of two categories: Premio Gredos, with a free theme and a value of 8.000 €, and Accésit Valle del Tiétar, with a value of 2.000 €. It is one of the most important cultural events in the city, sponsored by the Gran Duque de Alba Institute, under the auspices of the Provincial Council and the City Council of Arenas de San Pedro. It is one of the most important prizes on the national scene, given the impact and prestige it has acquired over the years, both for the high level of its participants and the jury, which has included artists of the stature of Antonio Lopez.
